UK POP CHART HISTORY - MAY 1972
It really seemed as though T.Rex could do no wrong at this point, In fact it would have been
completely inconceivable to suggest that 'Metal Guru' would be the last T.Rex record to top the UK
singles chart. Unfortunately for Marc Bolan though, this would indeed be his fourth and final
number 1 record.
Despite going on to enjoy a further two top 2 placings in 1972, by the end of the year, the competition
from other Glam Rock bands such as The Sweet, and in particular Slade, would prove to be too much of
a distraction for the fickle teeny bop market that Marc Bolan had now come to rely on completely, having
totally alienated his original underground fan base.
