UK POP CHART HISTORY - JULY 1972
The UK gets its first taste of Osmond-mania this week, as 14 year old Donny Osmond gets his first
of three solo UK chart toppers with 'Puppy Love'. Donny had managed to scrape a UK chart placing four
months earlier with The Osmonds (a band comprising himself and four of his older brothers), when
their first UK hit 'Down By The Lazy River' peaked at a rather lowly number 40. Donny had joined his
brother's band nine years earlier in 1963.
The next two years would prove to be a very lucrative period for the whole of the Osmond's clan.
