UK POP CHART HISTORY - JULY 1972
The Partridge Family enjoy their third visit to the UK Top 20 with this week's highest new entry
at Number 13. This time around the main focus of attention is the TV family's lead singer, David
Cassidy (Keith Partridge), who recently enjoyed his first UK solo hit.
The only other new entry this week crawls in at number 20. David Bowie - who hasn't been seen in the
top 20 since September 1969 - finally achieves his second UK chart placing with 'Starman'. Amazingly,
this is David Bowie's sixteenth 7 inch single to be released in the UK since his first attempt in 1964.
This second hit marks the beginning of a dramatic improvement to his appalling ratio of
hits and misses.
