UK POP CHART HISTORY - AUGUST 1972

This week's highest new entry at number 14 marks the first and only top 20 appearance for the Birmingham four piece rock band, Blackfoot Sue. Despite the fact that 'Standing In The Road' went on to peak at a very respectable number 4, and more importantly, is remembered today as an all time rock classic, Blackfoot Sue were unable to follow up its success, and therefore will be forever labelled with the unfortunate, and wholly undeserved title of 'One Hit Wonders'.
Further up the chart, another all time rock classic 'Silver Machine' stalls at number 3. Amazingly, for a band whose recording career will span more than forty years, Hawkwind are yet another band, who are remembered (at least in terms of UK top 20 singles success) as 'One Hit Wonders'.
