UK POP CHART HISTORY - SEPTEMBER 1972
Straight into the top twenty at number 2 this week is the latest 45 from Slade. With two chart
toppers already under their belt, Slade's manager, Chas Chandler, was hoping to pull off something
really special with this release. The plan was to get the record straight to the top spot on its
first week of release. This was regarded as almost impossible at the time, having been achieved
only five times previously. Despite this, however, Chandler managed to secure a pre-release
performance of the single on Top Of The Pops (something that was totally unheard of at the time),
along with relentless radio play.
Unfortunately, the plan didn't quite pull off.
Better luck next time... maybe?
