UK POP CHART HISTORY - SEPTEMBER 1972
This week's only new entry marks the first UK top 20 appearance for American vocalist Bill Withers. It's a bit of a double whammy for the ex-toilet fitter. Just two places above him at number 16, Michael Jackson is enjoying his third UK solo hit with his version of 'Ain't No Sunshine', a Bill Withers composition that had won him a Grammy Award the previous year for 'Best Rhythm & Blues Song'.
