UK POP CHART HISTORY - DECEMBER 1972
Little Jimmy Osmond ends Chuck Berry's four week run at the top just in time to claim the much-coveted
Christmas number 1.
The highest new entry this week, at number 16, gives David Bowie his third top 20
hit of the year with 'The Jean Genie'.
At number 18, Judge Dread makes his second appearance in the UK
top 20 with another dose of reggae smut. 'Big Seven', despite being banned (just like its predecessor,
'Big Six', and all subsequent releases), goes on to give Judge Dread his biggest UK hit when it peaks
at number 8.
The final new entry this week at number 19, 'Getting A Drag', marks the second UK chart appearance for
Lynsey De Paul.
