  The annals of music journalism are cluttered with shopworn platitudes about musicians ?reinventing their sonic palette?, but they?re rarely as apt as in the case of Sydney songstress Bertie Blackman .



• Pumping: Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree (ChartAttack.com)
  This album made me feel like I was hanging from a tree out of boredom. Some folks swear by Goldfrapp's artful gloss weirdness, but those folks should probably just buy Bat For Lashes albums. They'd be much happier.



• Christina Aguilera Working With Goldfrapp, Ladytron? (Pitchfork)
  It was plenty cool when Christina Aguilera collaborated with the likes of DJ Premier, Rich Harrison, and, yes, even Mark Ronson on 2006's monstrous Back to Basics . The double disc set saw a young lady too often relegated to "pop princess" tags taking a well-deserved stab at something bigger and kicking out some very serious jams in the process.



• The Rokettes Release Debut Single (Skiddle)
  El, The Rokettes front woman, has gained national fame performing under the name of Elena (please see below). El is accompanied by Ben Walker on guitar/bass and Merjin Royaards on drums.



• Nick Cave and Warren Ellis Score Sex Trade Documentary Film (Pitchfork)
  On their MySpace page , Cave and Ellis mention that they have scored The Girls of Phnom Penh , which is described as "Matthew Watson's second film about the consequences of Cambodia's 'virginity trade'". Sounds unbearably sad! The as-yet-unfinished film is due later in the year.



• Battle hopefuls are revealed (Shropshire Star)
  The five unsigned bands who will fight it out for prizes in the final of the Shropshire Star Battle of the Bands 2009 have been unveiled.



• New 'House of Imagination' film reflects SCI FI's evolution to Syfy (Sci Fi Wire)
  A two-minute film, "House of Imagination," has gone live to reflect SCI FI's brand evolution to Syfy on Tuesday, celebrating Syfy's unique spin on imagination. The new film features stars from Warehouse 13, Eureka, Ghost Hunters, Caprica, Sanctuary, Stargate Universe, Destination Truth and ECW .
